Business Digest Indianapolis: Area businesses honored
04/28/2004
Lt. Gov. Kathy Davis announced awards for 99 Indiana businesses that have achieved 100 or 50 years of successful operation.
Among the recipients of the awards were: Days Corp., Elkhart, 91 years; and McCormick Motors Inc., Nappanee, 50 years.
Founded in 1913 Days Transfer Inc. sold its transportation arm in 1961 to B.I. Woodhull, who started Days Moving & Storage Inc. with machinery moving, household moving and distribution divisions. He sold the company in 1986 to Williams Halt, James Sproatt and John Woodhull. Operating as Days corp. since 1998, the company has machinery moving, distribution, crating and equalizing system divisions.
Gordon “Short” McCormick founded McCormick Motors Inc. in 1953 as a one car showroom on Main Street in Nappanee. With many additions over the years, the dealership has grown to encompass 40,000 square feet located along 1,300 feet of highway frontage. The dealership has won the GM Mark of Excellence Award, indicating the top 1 percent of GM dealerships for sales and customer satisfaction, seven years in a row. McCormick is the only dealership in the country to achieve that accomplishment.
Recipients were nominated by people or organizations in the communities where the businesses operate.
